In the field we often expect students to keep field notebooks and sometimes these fieldnote books form part of their assessment.
On one of our trips, we had a student who only had use of one of their hands. In this situation, holding a notebook and standing is the field is quite challenging. However, this student was very independent and wanted to manage on their own. As a result, we did not put in any additional measures other than checking on the student and looking for stops where the student could rest their notebook on the ground/on a wall. This shows we need to listen to the students and not make assumptions about finding solutions. Sometimes a student wants to manage on their own.
